5 Dead Following Shooting in Northern France
On Sunday, December 16, the French news agency reported a deadly shooting in the Vermelles and Loon-Plage areas of northern France, which resulted in the deaths of five people, including two Iranian Kurdish refugees.
According to the French police, the incident initially began in Vermelles, where a 29-year-old man was shot. The attacker then moved towards Loon-Plage near the English Channel, where he killed four more people. The victims included two Iranian Kurdish refugees from Mariwan named Hadi and Mohammad, aged 19 and 30, respectively.
Witnesses from the refugee camp in the area confirmed that these two refugees had previously been rescued by aid forces after an unsuccessful attempt to cross the English Channel. The Loon-Plage area, which hosts several refugee camps, has faced challenges with illegal immigration for years due to its proximity to Britain.
The French news agency wrote that the 22-year-old French attacker, who had no criminal record, went to the police station in the town of Gravelines after committing this bloody crime and confessed to his actions.
