A Firefighter's Report on the Tragic Fire at Evin Prison

A firefighter’s report on the disaster of the fire at Evin Prison

According to Iran Gate, while the Iranian judiciary announced this morning, after two days of conflicting reports about the number of deaths from the Evin Prison fire, that the death toll was 8, a firefighter who was at Evin on the night of the incident told the Ham Mihan newspaper that we handed over 8 bodies to the authorities that same night.

This firefighter also described Evin as a battlefield on the night of the fire and added that the special unit officers had fired so much tear gas in the prisoners’ hall that we ourselves were suffocating.

He says these officers also shot several prisoners and some others died from suffocation due to the tear gas, one of whom was an elderly man.

It is noteworthy that the names of the deceased have not yet been announced, and many families have staged a sit-in outside Evin Prison over the past two days. This afternoon, Mohseni Ejei claimed that the Evin fire was caused by enemy agents. He added that the recent crime of the Evin fire was to prevent the blossoming of talents and the education of prisoners by the enemy.
