Abbas Abdi: If Pezeshkian lost the election, I would have permanently left politics.
In a note titled ‘Personal Experience’ in the Etemad newspaper, Abbas Abdi wrote: From the very first day I supported Mr. Pezeshkian, I was confident that he would win this election. I must emphasize that I saw this electoral presence as my duty and not as a service to the individual candidate. As a result, I have no expectations from him other than Mr. Pezeshkian fulfilling his promises and alleviating some of the people’s pains and sufferings.
I will continue to serve the public sphere. I feel it is necessary to inform that from the very first moment, I had decided and told my friends that I define my presence in the election as such: Pezeshkian’s defeat would also be my political defeat, and if he lost, this would be my last note, and by announcing and accepting the defeat, I would permanently leave the field of politics and political journalism. This decision and definite punishment were in response to my own analytical error.
During this time, I never doubted Pezeshkian’s victory. Throughout these 37 days, I had no doubt about Pezeshkian’s victory. I believed that the capacity for this task existed and that this capacity could be actualized.
Statistical data is not a toy in our hands; we cannot analyze out of thin air. A single correct analysis and prediction does not bring us credibility; it might just be luck.
