Abbas Argon, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, says the government must be accountable for where these taxes are spent.
Abbas Argon, an economic activist and member of the Chamber of Commerce, told Entekhab about the negative impact of high taxes on economic growth, stating that given the current income level, if taxes go beyond a certain point, they will not only fail to foster growth but will also reduce government revenue.
Considering the rise in expenses we currently face, compared to wages and salaries, the increase in costs is very high. Taxes will merely put more pressure on the vulnerable class. The idea that people should participate in tax discussions is correct, and taxes should become a value, but they must be fair, and tax justice should be implemented at all levels, meaning all people should pay taxes transparently and fairly.
He emphasized that taxes are not a one-way street, and the tax collector must provide appropriate services to the people in return. The government must be accountable for taxes and explain where these taxes are spent. Additionally, it should reduce its expenses to offer better services.
If taxes are not aligned with payments and the quality of services, it can also lead to the emigration of the younger generation.
