Iman Shamsaei: No One Has Been Arrested in Tehran for Media Activities

Iman Shamsaei: No individual in Tehran has been arrested for media activities.

Iman Shamsaei, Director General of Domestic Press and News Agencies in Iran, has stated that so far eight of the detained journalists in the country have been released.

Mr. Shamsaei noted that security and law enforcement agencies acknowledge that the charges against these individuals were not related to covering recent events for their media, and no one in Tehran has been arrested for media activities.

Since the start of the nationwide protests in Iran, a large number of journalists and media activists have been detained.

The Ministry of Intelligence and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in a joint statement regarding the recent protests, described Iranian journalists who published reports on the death of Mahsa Amini and her funeral as affiliated with and trained by intelligence services.

The statement claimed that the protests were a plot by foreign services.

Following the release of this statement, over 300 journalists supported the detained journalists, including Niloufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, and called for their release.
