A Murder That Turned 24 Years Old

It was the evening of the first of Azar 1377 (November 22, 1998) when Dariush Forouhar and Parvaneh Forouhar were murdered in their home in Tehran. This murder marked the beginning of a series of killings of Iranian writers and intellectuals, including Mohammad Jafar Pouyandeh, Mohammad Mokhtari, and Majid Sharif, which later became known as the chain murders by the Ministry of Intelligence.

The Ettelaat newspaper, on the following day, reported the murder of Dariush Forouhar and his wife, stating that Dariush Forouhar and his wife were killed in their residence on Hedayat Street in Tehran by unknown individuals using knife blows. According to the report, Bahmanesh, the on-duty criminal judge, and law enforcement officers were investigating the crime at Dariush Forouhar’s home to determine the cause of this crime. The report indicates that eyewitnesses believe the killer or killers were familiar, as they entered the house with a box of sweets and a bouquet of flowers.
