Putin asks Russians to have more children
Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, said on Friday that Russian families should have at least two children for the sake of the country’s national survival, and if they want to grow, they should have three or more children.
He added that if the Russian people want to preserve their identity, having two children in each family is a minimum requirement.
He said that if each family has only one child, the population will decrease, and for growth and development, at least three children are needed.
Russia has experienced a gradual decline in population after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The population of Russia was estimated to be around 146 million at the beginning of 2023, which is a decrease of almost 149 million compared to 20 years ago. However, this is an increase from the lowest figure of around 143 million between 2007 and 2012.
