The proposed resolution by the United States to the Security Council calls for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza to free hostages.
The United States has submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council calling for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza conflict and warning against Israel’s military operations in Rafah.
According to Reuters, which has seen versions of this draft, the text states that the Security Council should support a temporary ceasefire aimed at freeing all hostages once it is implemented.
The draft also reportedly mentions that under the current circumstances, extensive ground operations in Rafah will cause more harm to civilians, displacement, including into neighboring countries.
The Security Council is scheduled to vote on the proposed draft resolution on Wednesday morning, but the United States has already stated that it will veto it.
The United States has previously opposed all proposed drafts for a ceasefire in Gaza, and some analysts say the new draft indicates America’s concern about the consequences of Israel’s attack on Rafah.
