Belgium's Constitutional Court Suspends Iran-Belgium Prisoner Exchange

The Constitutional Court of Belgium has suspended the exchange of prisoners between Iran and Belgium.

The Constitutional Court of Belgium has stated that this treaty has been suspended until a final decision is made, which will be determined within the next three months.

With this suspension, there will be no legal basis for the extradition of Asadollah Asadi, the Iranian diplomat, to Iran until a final decision is reached on this matter.

According to this treaty, Iranian and Belgian criminals who have been sentenced to prison in the courts of the other country can serve their prison terms in their own country.

Opponents of the Iranian government and critics of this treaty had previously stated in opposition that this treaty is designed in a way that would facilitate the release of Asadollah Asadi, the Iranian diplomat.
