Deputy Minister of Health: Omicron subvariant is causing the increase in COVID-19 cases

Saeed Karimi, the Deputy Minister of Health of Iran, has stated that a subvariant descended from the Omicron variant is the main cause of the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Mr. Karimi mentioned that this subvariant was not previously present in Iran and is the same variant that caused widespread outbreaks in Europe and America.

According to him, we currently have about 13,000 daily visits to medical centers from people with respiratory symptoms and symptoms similar to a cold.

The Iranian Deputy Minister of Health said that its mortality rate is not higher than other variants, but when a variant is highly transmissible, those who are vulnerable and contract it may lose their lives.

He recommended that people with underlying health conditions should take care of themselves, wear masks in enclosed spaces, maintain physical distancing, and pay attention to hygiene measures.
