Deputy Minister of Interior Security: 1,700 billion tomans in damages over the past two months
Majid Mirahmadi, Deputy Minister of Interior for Security and Law Enforcement, announced that in the protests over the past two months, a total of 1,700 billion tomans in damages have been inflicted on government facilities, public properties, and people’s assets.
He did not clarify the extent of the damages caused by internet outages and the attacks by security and law enforcement forces on people’s vehicles and properties, nor how it will be compensated.
In his interview with IRIB, he said that shops and stores have been looted or set on fire.
Previously, the Iranian Minister of Interior had stated that the main damages were caused by rioters. The Iranian Minister of Interior had also announced earlier that a fact-finding committee has been formed to investigate the protests and damages. Meanwhile, the UN Human Rights Council had earlier decided to establish an international fact-finding committee to address human rights violations. However, the Iranian government has announced they will not cooperate with this committee.
