Hamshahri Newspaper: Car Imports Are Just Talk

The official publication of the Tehran mayor has reported that due to currency obstacles, there is no consensus on the volume of imports because the Central Bank opposes the extensive outflow of the country’s currency.

In order for the government to be able to provide the foreign currency resources for car imports, a clause has been included in the import regulations allowing some exporters to import cars in exchange for exporting certain products. However, given the requirements related to fulfilling foreign exchange commitments by exporters, the Central Bank opposes this plan.

Amir Hossein Kakayi, a car expert, states that fewer than 10,000 cars are supposed to be imported. If the issue with the JCPOA is resolved, car prices will decrease to some extent, but the main problem is that the Central Bank opposes car imports.
