Hamshahri Newspaper: Car import is just talk

The press organ of the Tehran mayor has reported that due to currency barriers, there is no consensus on the volume of imports because the Central Bank opposes the extensive outflow of the country’s currency.

To be able to provide the currency resources for car imports, the government has included a clause in the import regulations that allows some exporters to import cars in exchange for exporting certain products. However, given the requirements related to the fulfillment of exporters’ currency commitments, the Central Bank opposes this plan.

Amir Hossein Kakaei, a car expert, stated that under 10,000 cars are supposed to be imported. If the JCPOA issue is resolved, car prices will decrease to some extent, but the main problem is that the Central Bank opposes car imports.
