iPhone Import Tariff Announced

iPhone import tariff announced

Kamran Taqavinejad, the secretary of the Cabinet, announced on Sunday, November 4, that the new import tariff for iPhones has been set. The import duty for Apple phones over $600 in commercial procedures is 15%, and in other procedures, it is set at 30% for the current year.

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), quoting the secretary of the Cabinet, also stated that based on the Cabinet’s resolution, the import duty for Apple phones priced at $600 and below is set at 5% in commercial procedures and 6% in other procedures.

This tariff has been announced while earlier there were reports of a 96% tariff for importing Apple phones, which sparked a wave of critical reactions on social media.

Abdolnasser Hemmati, the Minister of Economy, said on Saturday that the government’s resolution regarding a 96% tariff for importing iPhones was not our decision, and the new tariff will likely be close to 30%.

Earlier, in a Cabinet resolution published on November 1, which was met with reactions, the commercial profit for importing iPhones was set at 96%, meaning that applicants would have to pay up to twice the original price after the import ban is lifted.
