Iran Condemns Cancellation of Hosting the Maritime Organization Summit

Iran condemned the cancellation of hosting the Maritime Organization meeting

The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the U.S. action of canceling Tehran’s hosting of the International Maritime Organization meeting, stating that the U.S.’s political exploitation of UN technical bodies knows no bounds.

According to Mehr News Agency, Nasser Kanaani said that unfortunately, the U.S. government, by resorting to fabrications, accusations, and false statements, seeks to cover up its illegal and unjustifiable actions.

The United Nations International Maritime Organization, at the request of the U.S., rejected the proposal for the Islamic Republic of Iran to host a specialized maritime meeting in October.

In 2015, Iran proposed to host the annual international shipping meeting, and this proposal was accepted by the Executive Council of the International Maritime Organization.

The U.S. stated in a letter that over the past two years, Iran has attacked, harassed, or seized more than 20 commercial ships.
