Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: We Will Soon Send a Delegation to Reopen Our Embassy in Saudi Arabia

The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry: We will soon send a delegation to reopen our embassy in Saudi Arabia.

Iran says it will soon send a delegation to reopen its embassy in Saudi Arabia.

Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stated that to resume official relations and activate ties, a technical delegation from Saudi Arabia arrived in Tehran on Saturday. They are assessing conditions and laying the groundwork for reopening the embassy in Tehran and the consulate general in Mashhad.

The two countries recently agreed to resume relations after seven years. The foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia met last week in China, facilitated by the Chinese government.

Iran says it is preparing the groundwork for reopening its embassy, consulate general, and its representation in Jeddah at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

After the attack on the Saudi embassy in January 2016, Saudi officials completely severed political and economic relations with Iran.
