Japan’s Government Plan to Address Labor Shortage
The Japanese government has unveiled its new plan to compensate for the labor shortage in the country, which will increase the number of industries allowed to attract long-term skilled workers from the current two to eleven.
According to this plan, skilled workers employed in the housing sector as well as in agriculture and food industries can also benefit from the advantage of receiving unlimited residency in Japan.
This plan is designed to encourage skilled foreign workers to reside long-term in Japan to address the labor shortage problem caused by the declining birth rate in the country.
The plan, prepared by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, was presented on Monday to the party’s specialized committee for discussion and review, to address any potential shortcomings before the approval process begins in the upcoming June cabinet meetings.
