Judiciary Spokesperson: We have requested the transfer of Asadollah Asadi

Masoud Setayeshi, the spokesperson for the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has stated that Tehran has officially requested Belgium to transfer Asadollah Asadi, a diplomat convicted in Belgium.

Mr. Setayeshi mentioned that the agreement for the transfer of prisoners between Iran and Belgium has been concluded and the documents have been exchanged. Both parties can proceed with the transfer of prisoners. The other party had made a request, and we have also made a request.

Asadollah Asadi, one of the senior diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the country’s embassy in Austria, has been sentenced to prison in Belgium on charges of planning and attempting to bomb in France. He is currently serving a 20-year sentence in one of the prisons in Belgium.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Belgium approved a treaty for the transfer of prisoners between the two countries in their respective parliaments last year.
