A member of the Parliament’s Energy Commission said the government has not proposed a gasoline price increase.
In response to concerns about a potential gasoline price increase in Iran, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s Energy Commission emphasized that the government does not intend to raise fuel prices, and no discussions on this matter have taken place in Parliament.
Ramazani Sangdovini, the representative of Gorgan and a member of the Iranian Parliament’s Energy Commission, wrote on his Twitter that the government does not intend to increase gasoline prices. If the government wanted to raise gasoline prices, it would have included it in the budget bill and allocated the resulting resources for the 2023 budget. No such discussions have taken place in the Parliament’s Energy Commission, and the government has not proposed such a topic.
He accused some media outlets of trying to create tension by suggesting a possible gasoline price increase and added that the reality is if the government intended to increase gasoline prices, it would have included it in the budget bill, but such a thing has not been proposed at all.
In November 2019, protests over the sudden increase in gasoline prices in Iran became one of the major crises for the Iranian government in recent years, and a large number of people were killed during the nationwide crackdown on protests.
