Minister of Culture’s reaction to Mohammad Rasoulof’s film ‘The Sacred Fig Tree’: We will deal with underground film production
In a gathering with reporters, the Minister of Culture spoke about the state of underground film production and the entry of Mohammad Rasoulof’s film ‘The Sacred Fig Tree’ into Cannes, saying this is a clear violation. He also mentioned that the book fair on Friday was so crowded that we were concerned about the regular movement of people.
In response to a question about the production of films without the Ministry of Culture’s permission and underground in Iran, and their participation in international festivals, he said that the production and distribution of such films is against the law. Wherever we find out, we will stop it. Both we and the legal entities responsible are taking action. These violations are troubling offenses that affect the cinematic community more than others. At the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, we see ourselves as regulators and guardians of the law, and these legal boundaries are well protected. We advise all those engaging in activities outside the law to operate within the legal framework.
