New Revelation by Hemmati: What’s Happening in the South Pars Gas Field
New Revelation by Hemmati: Abdolnaser Hemmati, the former governor of the Central Bank, revealed on his Twitter account a decrease in gas extraction from the South Pars gas field. Hemmati, who has consistently been a critic of President Raisi’s economic performance in recent months, has now reported a disaster in the energy sector.
The former governor of the Central Bank disclosed in this tweet a decrease of 100 million cubic meters of gas per day by Iran in the South Pars gas field. This is while the daily extraction capacity was supposed to increase from 700 million cubic meters to 750 million cubic meters. However, according to Hemmati, the thirteenth government is more than 150 million cubic meters per day behind schedule due to a lack of investment in this sector.
It seems that not only is the thirteenth government unable to increase the extraction capacity from the shared South Pars field with Qataris, but even preventing the decrease in extraction is not feasible for Ebrahim Raisi’s cabinet.
Hemmati wrote on Twitter: The gas extraction from South Pars, which was supposed to reach 750 million cubic meters per day from 700, has dropped to about 650. Preventing the decline in production requires advanced technology and an investment of 25 to 30 billion dollars. Qatar has made extensive preparations for an investment to produce 12 billion cubic meters. Let’s not miss the opportunities.
