Removal of the Regulatory Body’s Name from the Broadcasting Budget Law

Mojtaba Tavangar, a representative from Tehran in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, announced the removal of the name of the Comprehensive Audio-Visual Regulatory Organization in Cyberspace, a subsidiary of the Broadcasting Organization, from the 2023 budget law.

The Guardian Council also expressed its opposition on March 18th to including the name of this broadcasting regulatory body in the budget law due to its non-budgetary nature.

On Sunday, March 19th, Mr. Tavangar stated that the Assembly and the Guardian Council removed the exclusive authority of SATRA and its excessive demands for pressure on the comprehensive audio and visual domain from the 2023 budget law, meaning that the Broadcasting Organization no longer has any pretext or excuse for monopolistic behavior and pressure on VODs (Video on Demand programs) or interactive media.

He said the Assembly, following the executive and judicial branches, rejected the hasty and beyond-legal requests of the Broadcasting Organization and the illegal SATRA entity.
