Search for occupants of military helicopter in Japan

Japan’s Coast Guard announced on Friday that a day after a military helicopter disappeared from radar screens, rescuers have been able to find its parts in the sea.

According to this, several pieces of the helicopter, including a door, a broken blade, and a yellow life raft that was still inside its packaging, were found in the waters north of Irabujima Island.

There are still no signs of the cause of this incident. The helicopter, with 10 occupants, was on a reconnaissance mission in the area. There is still no information about the fate of the helicopter’s occupants, and the search operation continues.

The Japanese military has previously experienced similar incidents. In January 2022, a Japanese fighter jet crashed in the central waters of Ishikawa, killing its two pilots. In 2019, an F35 stealth jet crashed into the sea after taking off from northeastern Japan on a training mission.
