Statement of Students from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Tehran

Statement by a group of students from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Tehran, protesting the arrest and suspension of students and the insecurity of the university environment. In the name of God, the creator of the rainbow, and in memory of the rain that taught us.

This letter is written by a group of students from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Tehran. We are engaged in understanding the workings of the universe that God has created, where order and logic are constantly examined. However, in recent days, all that has been happening, especially the treatment of students and faculty members, lacks logic and is beneath our social dignity.

The unfortunate events that have occurred at the university in recent days are known to everyone. Events that, whether for students or faculty members, are far removed from the civilized conduct expected in the country’s academic symbol. Students who have been barred from their legal right to enter the university have been replaced by plainclothes individuals who inspect students upon entry and exit. When students raise their voices in protest for their compatriots and classmates, they are treated in the most disgraceful manner possible and beaten.

Respected professors, each of us is free before we hold any title. We were born free, and we have no doubt we will leave this world free. You have taught us the laws of nature in your classes; we seek lessons of freedom and courage from you. How can we attend classes when our classmates are detained and even denied entry to the university?

The students of the Science Campus will not attend any classes until all students are freed and their entry bans are lifted. We sincerely ask you to be the voice of the students and urge you not to remain silent, as your silence equates to supporting oppression and injustice. We also have a message for the university’s security, which has never listened to the students and has made the university environment turbulent and insecure through irrational behavior. We want to say that you do not own this university. The university is the second home for students and professors. Our laughter and tears are intertwined with this building day and night. No one can truly deprive us of our right to be present and use our home with such shameless behavior. In condemning what we call a crime by the security against the university community and in solidarity with our suspended, detained, and killed classmates across the country, we will boycott university classes. We swear by the blood of our comrades that we will stand firm until the end, and the boycott by the students of the faculty will continue until the university security regrets their actions and issues a formal apology. And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest the fire touch you, and you have no protectors other than Allah, then you will not be helped. — Truthful is God, the Most High, the Great.
