Tehran's Police Chief: Only One Percent of Individuals Are Referred to the Moral Security Police

The chief of Tehran’s police states that only one percent of individuals are referred to the moral security police.

Commander Hossein Rahimi, the chief of Tehran’s police, in an interview with an ILNA reporter, spoke about the operations of the guidance patrol.

The operational units of the social and moral security patrol are responsible for approaching those who appear in public places and do not observe the necessary codes of conduct, providing them with warnings, which is a legal duty of the police.

Ninety percent of those who encounter the moral security police and do not observe Islamic codes comply with police warnings on the spot and listen to the police’s instructions. About nine percent of these individuals are transferred to the moral security patrol vans, where they receive warnings and then leave the area. Only one percent of these individuals, who are in an unsuitable condition, are referred to the moral security police according to the law.

In the moral security police, instead of taking legal action against these individuals, creating files, and referring them to judicial authorities, they are systematically informed and educated in the moral security police hall. If they are wearing inappropriate clothing, their family brings them suitable clothing, and they leave wearing appropriate attire. All officers in this hall, where the briefing classes are held, are women, and no male police officers are present.

Dozens of educational workshops have been held at the level of experienced instructors for the officers, teaching them about their mission, current laws for properly carrying out their duties, and how to appropriately interact with the public.

Continuous training of male and female officers in the social and moral security police is a part of their regular programs.

All these individuals are police personnel.
