The Lamentation of the Gharehhasanlou Family: For What Uncommitted Sin Should We Be Punished?

The family of Hamid and Farzaneh Gharehhasanlou has protested the prison and exile sentence of this doctor couple by releasing a text titled ‘The Lamentation of the Gharehhasanlous.’

Hamid Gharehhasanlou and Farzaneh Gharehhasanlou, who were accused of involvement in the murder of a Basiji, have been sentenced in the appeals court to 15 years and 5 years of imprisonment in exile, respectively.

Now, the Gharehhasanlou family has reported in a text about the torture and beating of Hamid Gharehhasanlou during his detention, emphasizing the innocence of the couple, and they ask, ‘For what uncommitted sin should we be punished?’

In part of this lamentation, the Gharehhasanlou family wrote that their crime was nothing but attending the fortieth-day ceremony of Hadis Najafi. On their way back, they encountered the scene of a Basiji being beaten, who later died. Even the incomplete footage from the Islamic Republic’s security system confirms that the Gharehhasanlou couple did not take any action at that scene. Now, with the accusation of why the humanitarian doctor did not save the Basiji’s life in the chaos, they must be exiled to Yazd for 15 years.
