Turkey Provides One Year of Free Household Gas

Turkey has made household gas consumption free for one year

The large Sakarya gas field in Turkey, with reserves of 652 billion cubic meters, was put into operation on Thursday, April 20th, less than three years after its discovery

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey, said at the inauguration ceremony of this gas field that in the first phase, 10 million cubic meters of gas will be produced daily and it will be free for household consumption for one year

Starting next month, 25 cubic meters of gas produced from this field will be delivered free to each household monthly, a move that will save approximately 16 billion dollars in household budgets by the end of May next year

Last year, due to the surge in global gas prices, Turkey increased its domestic gas prices in three stages, a decision that led to widespread public dissatisfaction, industrial discontent, and accelerated inflation in the country
