Ukraine receives first shipment of cluster bombs from the United States
Two days after the NATO summit focused on security threats posed by Russia, a senior Ukrainian military commander confirmed on Thursday, July 13, that his country has received its first shipment of cluster bombs from the United States.
General Oleksandr Tarnavsky, the commander of Ukraine’s Joint Forces Operation, told CNN that the military has not yet used these bombs, which could fundamentally change the conditions of the war.
He added that Ukraine will not use these bombs in civilian areas.
The confirmation of the arrival of the first shipment of cluster bombs to Ukraine comes as President Volodymyr Zelensky left this week’s two-day NATO summit in Vilnius without achieving his main goal of securing Ukraine’s membership in NATO.
Before Mr. Zelensky returned to Kyiv, NATO leaders assured him that Ukraine will have a place in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the future.
