UN Security Council Resolution for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza Strip

United Nations Security Council resolution for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

Members of the United Nations Security Council called for an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan about six months after the start of Israel’s war against Hamas.

After months of disagreements, three U.S. vetoes, and one veto by Russia and China, the Security Council members finally voted on a resolution that, in addition to establishing a ceasefire, called for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the release of Israeli hostages. The United States abstained from voting on the ceasefire request resolution.

The draft of this resolution was presented by ten non-veto-wielding member countries of the Security Council.

According to Israeli media reports, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, had threatened before the vote that if the United States did not veto this resolution, the Israeli Defense Minister’s trip to Washington would be canceled.
