Commencement of the second phase of the project to transfer water from the Sea of Oman to Isfahan

According to the ISNA news agency, Ibrahim Raeisi, after visiting the progress of the project to transfer water from the Sea of Oman to Isfahan, issued the order to start the implementation of the second phase of this important project.

This project is being implemented in Isfahan.

According to this report, in the first stage, 70 million cubic meters of water will be transferred from the Sea of Oman to Isfahan, and in the second stage, 400 million cubic meters of water will be transferred.

According to this report, the implementation of the first phase of this project started in Mehr month of 1401 (2022), and currently, 24 points are active with the presence of 14 contractors.

The desalination project for agricultural use of seawater was pursued in Iran in the 1960s and 1970s, and one of the motivations for the establishment of the Bushehr nuclear power plant at that time was to supply the high amount of electricity needed for desalination facilities.

In recent years, water scarcity in Isfahan has led to protests in the province.
