More than 80,000 detainees of the recent protests have been granted amnesty, according to shocking statistics.
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of the judiciary in Iran, has stated that the number of individuals who have been granted amnesty after being detained during the recent protests has exceeded 80,000.
This is the first time that a senior official of the Iranian government has acknowledged the extent of the government’s oppressive crackdown on protesters by providing statistics on those who have been granted amnesty.
Based on interviews conducted by the official website of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Iranian government, with the head of the judiciary, the number of individuals eligible for amnesty, including those detained for disturbances and non-disturbances, as well as those whose sentences have been reduced and received leniency, has exceeded 80,000.
According to human rights organizations, approximately 500 people were killed during these widespread protests. Additionally, hundreds of individuals have suffered serious injuries, including eye injuries caused by shootings by government-affiliated forces or being beaten with batons.
