Erdogan promised to reduce inflation to single digits
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey and leader of the Justice and Development Party, which is facing its biggest political challenge in his 20-year rule, has released his election statement for the upcoming presidential elections.
In this statement, Mr. Erdogan, which includes election promises of the Justice and Development Party, has promised to reduce Turkey’s soaring inflation to single digits and revive economic growth by encouraging investment in the country.
Erdogan’s opponents consider his economic policies as the main cause of Turkey’s current runaway inflation.
According to them, his economic approach, which emphasized keeping interest rates low even during times of inflation and devaluation of the national currency, has caused the most damage to the Turkish economy.
However, the election statement of the Justice and Development Party does not contain any promises regarding a return to more conventional economic policies.
Recent polls show that Recep Tayyip Erdogan is slightly behind Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the Republican People’s Party and the candidate of the opposition coalition.
