300% increase in traffic violation fines

Simultaneously with serious economic challenges faced by citizens in Iran, the deputy head of the traffic police announced a 200% to 300% increase in traffic violation crimes.

Timur Hosseini stated that the proposal of the traffic police to increase fines includes violations that lead to accidents, such as speeding, illegal overtaking, crossing the center line, zigzag driving, driving under the influence, and other hazardous behaviors.

According to this official, for each of these crimes and other offenses such as running red lights, a higher amount of over one million tomans has been considered to have a deterrent effect.

In response to the question of whether the increase in the amount of traffic violation fines does not harm households, he also stated that traffic violations that are not part of the household budget would not be affected by the increase.

Iran has one of the highest rates of road accident-related deaths in the world.
