The authorities announced that the number of pardoned protesters is 22,000.

The head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, who had mentioned on February 4th that the number of prisoners and detainees included in the amnesty was over 80,000, refrained from providing accurate statistics on the released protesters. On Monday, February 22nd, he provided some explanations regarding this matter.

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, who was speaking at a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council on Monday, stated that so far, 82,000 individuals have been eligible for amnesty, and this number may increase. Out of these, 22,000 are individuals pardoned for their involvement in the disturbances, who either had already been convicted or were pardoned before being convicted. However, only a few of these individuals were in prison, and most of them were either out of prison on bail or their case had not yet been completed.

The authorities of the Islamic Republic always refer to popular protests as disturbances and arrest the protesters on charges of causing disturbances.
