Threat of using personal clothing on Thursday of Fire

The commander of Tehran’s law enforcement forces has warned the people of Iran’s capital that his subordinates are planning to use personal clothing of government officials during this year’s Thursday of Fire celebration.

Abbas Ali Mohammadian stated that on Wednesday, starting from 3 PM, the police will begin their actions and deployment on the streets and neighborhoods of Tehran. He added that the police will confront individuals deemed disruptive.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the police will utilize the capacity of mosques and groups referred to as popular among the people during these confrontations.

Mr. Mohammadian’s reference is to the forces of Basij bases, which are active alongside most mosques in Iran under the supervision of the Revolutionary Guards. Reports have previously been published about the use of mosques as temporary detention centers for protesters and as places of torture.
