Juan Guaido, who was recognized as the interim president of Venezuela by the opponents of the ruling government and a part of the international community from 2019 to 2022, has been nominated as the opposition candidate in the preliminary elections to challenge Nicolas Maduro, the socialist president of Venezuela, in the 2024 presidential elections of the country.
Earlier, the National Assembly of Venezuela, composed of representatives of the opponents of the Maduro government, selected a group of former lawmakers, all of whom are women, as replacements for Mr. Guaido.
