Meeting between Macron and the Hungarian Prime Minister in Paris

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, hosted Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary, in Paris on Monday afternoon and had a meeting and conversation with him.

During this meeting, Emmanuel Macron emphasized the necessity of unity among European countries in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, as well as the importance of European values and the rule of law.

This is in contrast to Viktor Orban, who has openly criticized the European Union’s position on the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine, unlike many other European leaders.

According to an Élysée spokesperson, the meeting between the President of France and the Hungarian Prime Minister provided a fresh opportunity to reiterate the importance of European values and the unity of EU member states in supporting Ukraine in order to confront Russia’s military aggression, particularly through the imposition of sanctions against Moscow.

According to Radio France International, it is also expected that Mr. Macron will once again remind Hungary of the need to endorse Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO in this meeting.
