China and the United States ready to resume talks

According to Iran Gate, in recent days there have been signs of efforts to warm relations between Beijing and Washington, as evidenced by the presence of the Great Wall of China near the White House. These efforts, mentioned below, indicate that a change is happening and there is a willingness to improve the situation.

Are the relations between China and the United States changing?

Nicholas Burns, the US ambassador to China, said on Wednesday that Washington is ready for talks with China and expressed hope that Beijing would also accompany the American vision and be ready to start talks and improve its relations with the country. Burns did not specifically address the details and did not specify when Secretary of State Antony Blinken may travel to China, a trip that was delayed after the spy balloon crisis in Beijing.

Nicholas Burns stated that our perspective is that we need better and deeper channels of communication between the two countries. He explained that the Stimson Center, a non-profit and non-partisan think tank, is a platform aimed at strengthening international peace and security through a combination of analysis and information dissemination in which he participated remotely. We are ready to engage in discussions.

In recent weeks, there have been various stages that indicate bilateral efforts to initiate dialogue between the United States and China, as well as particularly regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine. Below is a brief summary of the actions taken.

April 21: Janet Yellen’s first opening with China

According to Janet Yellen, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, cutting off trade relations with China would be a mistake for everyone. In fact, this was the first step taken by the U.S. economic manager to exert pressure on Beijing.

April 26: Xi Jinping’s phone call with Zelensky

On April 26, Xi Jinping, the President of China, contacted his counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, for the first time since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Zelensky described the conversation as lengthy and meaningful.

April 27: Sullivan’s commitment and patience with Beijing

During his speech at the Brookings Institution, a non-profit and non-partisan American think tank that focuses on analyzing political, social, and economic issues, Jack Sullivan, the National Security Advisor to the White House, outlined the new international policy of the United States after globalization and emphasized the need for commitment and patience in creating a new global balance. He stated that in this new world order, the relationship with China cannot be ignored or eliminated.

On May 2nd, China voted against Russia at the United Nations.

China and India vote in favor of a United Nations General Assembly resolution that explicitly refers to the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, based on reports from the United Nations and the Council of Europe.

By the end of the year, I hope to travel to China.

Anthony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States, had previously canceled his trip to Beijing after the incident involving Chinese spy balloons flying over US airspace. Now, he is making another attempt and hopes to travel to China by the end of the year.

On May 4th, John Kerry was invited to Beijing for climate matters.

John Kerry, the former Secretary of State under the Obama administration and current Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, announced that he has been invited by the Chinese government to travel to the country for discussions on how to prevent the global climate crisis.
