Raisi entered Damascus after 13 years

After 13 years, Ebrahim Raisi entered Damascus.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has arrived in Damascus, the capital of Syria, for an official visit.

This is the first trip by an Iranian president to Syria since the start of the internal wars in the country.

Mr. Raisi’s trip is two days long, and he is scheduled to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the coming hours.

Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mehrdad Bazrpash, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Javad Oji, the Minister of Oil, Amir Mohammadreza Ashrafi Esfahani, the Minister of Defense, Gholamhossein Esmaeili, the Chief of Staff, and Mohammad Javad Jamshidi, the Deputy for Political Affairs at the President’s Office, are accompanying Mr. Raisi on this trip.

Iran, along with Russia, has been a supporter of the Bashar al-Assad government during the protests in Syria that turned into a civil war.
