The President of Iraq Arrives in Iran

The President of Iraq has arrived in Iran.

IRNA, the official news agency of the Islamic Republic, reports that the wife of the Iraqi President is accompanying him on this trip.

Iran’s Minister of Economy, Ehsan Khandouzi, welcomed the President of Iraq at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, and his wife was also greeted by Anisah Khazaali, the Deputy for Women’s Affairs of the President.

Mr. Rashid, who was elected as the President of Iraq in March last year, is visiting Iran for the first time.

Repayment of Iran’s debt for energy exports to Iraq has been a topic of discussion between Iran and Iraq.

Iraq states that due to the financial and banking sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran, it is unable to pay its debts according to Iran’s demands.
