The head coach of the Spanish women’s national football team has been dismissed.
The Spanish Football Federation has fired Jorge Vilda, the head coach of the national women’s football team. He was a close ally of Luis Rubiales, the suspended president of the Spanish Federation, who faced widespread criticism for kissing the lips of Jenny Hermoso, a national team player, during the celebration of the World Cup victory.
Most of Vilda’s coaching staff have resigned, and 81 players have stated that they are not willing to play for Spain anymore.
Rubiales denies any wrongdoing and refuses to resign. However, the FIFA has currently suspended him. At the same time, Pedro Roche, the interim president of the Federation, has apologized for Rubiales’ unacceptable behavior in a letter.
The Spanish Football Federation has not disclosed the reason for Vilda’s dismissal and has referred to him as a promoter of respectful values and sportsmanship in football in their statements.
