Macron and the President of the European Commission’s trip to China

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, along with Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, hope to improve relations with China through a three-day trip.

This trip will begin on Thursday.

Tensions between Brussels and Beijing have increased since China refrained from condemning Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

It is expected that Mr. Macron and Mrs. von der Leyen will ask President Xi Jinping to hold talks with Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine.

At the same time, it is said that they are trying to pressure China not to send weapons to Russia.

Reporters say that Beijing is concerned about trade and wants to reach agreements with the European Union by adopting a tough approach towards China, similar to Washington’s approach.

Meanwhile, Chinese media have criticized recent statements by Mrs. von der Leyen regarding the trade risk with China.
