Amnesty International calls on the UN Human Rights Council to exempt the Taliban from punishment

Amnesty International urges the United Nations Human Rights Council to put an end to the Taliban’s exemption from punishment.

Amnesty International calls on UN member countries to take tangible actions against the severity of human rights violations in Afghanistan and ensure that justice will be served for the victims of Taliban atrocities.

The human rights organization states that the extremist Islamic Taliban in Afghanistan have unlawfully detained women’s rights advocates, university professors, and civil activists for their criticisms.

Amnesty International also states that the Taliban show no willingness to investigate their members’ actions that severely violate the rights of Afghans. Therefore, this non-governmental organization based in the UK calls for the establishment of an independent investigative mechanism in Afghanistan.

Agnes Callamard, the Secretary-General of Amnesty International, states that the human rights situation in Afghanistan is rapidly deteriorating, with daily occurrences of merciless Taliban abuses.
