Factors Hindering Development in Iran

Factors inhibiting development in Iran

The factors inhibiting development in Iran, as reported by Iran Gate, began in 1402 and sustainable development continues to be an unfulfilled aspiration for Iranian society. It is a development that every Iranian can take pride in their country and identity, and have something new to say compared to other countries in the world. But why has sustainable development become elusive for Iran, and why are we getting closer to obstructing development more than ever before?

Reformism as a prerequisite for development

Reformism or the desire for reform is a prerequisite for development. Development without renewal and renewal without reformism is impossible. Although we witness profound social transformations in certain layers of Iranian society, the ruling system is still not ready to accept fundamental reforms. Belief in the possibility of reforming political and economic structures through reformism in Iran’s governance system has become more difficult, and the path to development is more blocked than ever before.

Two alarming concerns

Peace is a fundamental principle in the development process for any country, but many of us are concerned that the future of Iranian society may be more alarming than today. In order to achieve internal development, public trust and social cohesion must also be high, and this is the most important challenge for Iranian society these days. In a society where public trust is weak, fear and anxiety about the future intensify day by day, and the concept of sustainable development is lost.

Poverty and inflation

Today, a large portion of Iranian society is struggling with poverty and destitution, immersed in numerous problems. Even the middle class in Iran, as a development haven, is not doing well. Poverty has led many observers to believe that Iran will forever lag behind in development, and based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, this country will continue to grapple with meeting its most basic societal needs. Food insecurity threatens us, while the current world is interconnected through technological advancements and the entire globe has become a village. Yet, we still face challenges in having normal connections with the world.

Four incapacities and the decline of ideologies

Throughout the history of the Iranian people, there have been periods where empires such as the Sassanians have left lasting legacies that reflect the development and prosperity of that time. While there have been periods of recession in Iranian history, there have also been glorious periods. However, it seems that today there are no longer any notable figures or catalysts for change in the field of execution, and worthy individuals have withdrawn into seclusion.

This nation yearns for thinkers and personalities in the field of execution. Great men like Mirza Taghi Khan Amir Kabir, who just yesterday some media outlets would place the Amirkabir hat on Mohammad Javad Zarif, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and portray him as the formidable figure of mythical Iranian heroes or Amirkabir. The development of Iran requires individuals with lofty ideas and unwavering determination.

The Five Willpowers to Rise

The dream of development is not possible without visionary thinking. It requires the will to wake up and rise. If this will exists, development will not be blocked. We can start from the current situation. Just like Japan today, it did not sit idle in the world war yesterday. It is enough for half of the will of governing system in Japan to be a model for the governing system in Iran. Japan’s power does not lie in its defense and military system. The Japanese have developed a deep connection with their former enemies in World War II because the current code of conduct is global order. They cooperate based on national interests in the world.

The Japanese knew that this path is not part of their sustainable development, and they had the will to achieve it. If it is a genuine will, we should have no doubt that the ideas of development will sprout again in our land. The government must restore hope to the society through its actions and eliminate the sense of helplessness and lack of future in global competitions, both in ourselves and others.
