US Deputy Secretary of Defense: Iran is 12 days away from building a nuclear bomb

The Deputy Minister of Defense of the United States says that Iran is 12 days away from building a nuclear bomb.

A US Defense Department official has stated that Iran can produce the necessary nuclear materials for a bomb in approximately 12 days.

According to Reuters, Colin Kahl, the Deputy Minister of Defense, said in a session at the House of Representatives in response to Republican representatives’ questions about why the Biden administration wants to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, that the progress of Iran’s nuclear program has been significant since the US withdrew from the JCPOA. In 2018, when the previous administration decided to exit the JCPOA, it took Iran about 12 months to produce enough nuclear materials for a nuclear bomb. Now it takes about 12 days.

Mr. Kahl added, therefore, in my opinion, the belief still exists that if this issue can be resolved through diplomacy and the nuclear program of this country can be restrained again, it is better than other options. But currently, the JCPOA is in a frozen state.
