India announces the birth of four leopard cubs

The country has been working to repopulate leopards in India. Last year, they brought in 8 leopards from Namibia, and last month, 12 leopards from South Africa.

The Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh government shared a video on their Twitter page, stating that these four cubs were born from one of the leopards that were transferred from Namibia to India on September 17, 2022.

The Asian leopard is critically endangered, with only a small population remaining in Iran.

Peyvand, a leopard cub that was being kept in Pardisan Park in Tehran and was a symbol of the rescue of the endangered Asian leopards in Iran, passed away in early February.

India declared the extinction of the Asian leopard in this country in 1952. Seventy years later, the forests of India have once again become the habitat of these magnificent mammals.

Cheetahs from the African country of Namibia, which is considered one of the largest habitats for leopards, have been transferred to India.

According to the latest reports, there are only 7,000 leopards left in the wild worldwide.
