Deputy Minister of Science’s reaction to the closure of the German institute in Iran
In response to the closure of the office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Tehran, the Deputy Minister of Science for International Affairs in Iran attributed it to the decrease in European countries’ interest in scientific collaboration with Iran.
While acknowledging the academic crisis this year and the pressures from Western countries in attracting students, Vahid Haddadi Asl stated that Iran has had good international activities in neighboring countries.
He reminded that Iran, except for Israel, has no restrictions on scientific collaboration with European countries, and these limitations are imposed by them. Haddadi Asl believes that a scientific organization like DAAD should not be influenced by such issues.
The German Academic Exchange Service strongly condemned the repressive behavior of the Iranian government towards the women’s rights movement, expressing solidarity with Iranian students and academics. The scientific and cultural cooperation of European institutions with the Islamic Republic over the past 44 years has been continuously affected by repressive approaches and the detention of foreign or dual-national academics in Iran.
