The National Resistance Council of Afghanistan urges not to hand over the Afghan embassy in Tehran to the Taliban.
The National Resistance Council, composed of jihadist leaders and former government officials of Afghanistan, considers the transfer of the country’s embassy in Tehran to the Taliban as a violation of diplomatic norms and contrary to the national interests of Afghanistan.
In its statements, the council has stated that it expects the Islamic Republic of Iran, while respecting the will and national interests of Afghanistan, to reconsider and support the advancement of the affairs of the Afghan embassy in Iran with its previous structure in order to provide secure and reliable services to Afghan immigrants residing in that country.
Last week, Naser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the end of the mission of a diplomat and the appointment of another diplomat from the same embassy does not imply a change in the legal status of the embassy.
