The empty capacity in universities has reached 450,000 seats.
After the nationwide entrance exam and the entrance exam for associate and new system bachelor’s degrees, as well as technical and vocational associate degrees, a portion of the student admission capacity in various fields remained vacant. Therefore, in its thirty-seventh session on January 8, 2023, the Evaluation and Admission Council approved the implementation of the completion phase for the remaining empty capacities.
Following the nationwide entrance exam in 2023 and the announcement of the final results, it was determined that 482,599 applicants were accepted into universities, higher education centers, and the four fields of the Islamic Azad University. Out of this number, 189,840 applicants were accepted based on exam results and 292,759 applicants were accepted based solely on their academic records.
The admission capacity in the 2023 nationwide entrance exam, which had been previously announced, also indicates that the admission capacity for exam-based fields was 177,192, and the admission capacity for fields without exams, solely based on academic records, was 335,745.
According to the nationwide university entrance exam statistics of 2023, one million and sixty thousand people were eligible to choose a major. In the end, more than six hundred thousand people chose majors with exams, and sixty-seven thousand people who did not participate in the nationwide exam chose majors without exams in 2023.
Studies on the remaining vacancies in the three models of accepting students into associate degree, bachelor’s degree, and technical vocational associate degree programs indicate that despite having capacities for one hundred students in various university majors and even technical vocational institutes, interest in continuing education in these fields is decreasing every day. Entrance exams and popular majors are still favored by educational groups.
