Iran became the champion of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
Iran’s national futsal team defeated Thailand 4-1 at Bangkok Stadium to win the AFC Futsal Asian Cup for the thirteenth time.
In the final match, Iran, who had won against Uzbekistan in the semifinals on penalties, scored through Mahdi Karimi, Saeid Ahmad Abbasi, Aliasghar Hassanzadeh, and their successful goalkeeper Bagheri Mohammadi.
The title of top scorer of the tournament, with 8 goals, went to Ahmad Abbasi, who plays for Valdepeñas club in Spain.
Under the guidance of Vahid Shamsaee, Iran’s team won against Afghanistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Thailand in the tournament.
Iran has won 13 championship titles, 2 runner-up titles, and 2 third-place titles in 17 editions. Thailand missed out on claiming the championship title for the third time.
Before the final, Uzbekistan passed Tajikistan in penalties to secure the third-place spot.
Iran, Thailand, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan futsal teams, along with Uzbekistan who will host the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup, will participate in the World Cup.
