Iran's gas losses have reached 21 billion cubic meters

Iran’s gas losses have reached 21 billion cubic meters.

While the Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran claims to reduce gas flaring, new statistics from the World Bank and BP show that Iran’s gas losses have reached 21 billion cubic meters.

Iran burns and wastes this natural product at the production stage in flares due to the lack of gas gathering equipment that accompanies oil extraction from oil fields.

World Bank statistics show that the flaring of associated gas with oil in Iran reached a record high of 21 billion cubic meters in 2023, which is equivalent to 40% of Turkey’s total gas consumption last year.

Gas flaring in Iran showed a 19% jump in the past year compared to 2022.
